The Legend

Not all angels are made of light and divine love. There is another side to their God, and the Dark Angels are expressions of it. Just as you can’t have sunlight without shade, Dark Angels are the counterparts to their shining kin. And they go about their holy duties differently, gathering the dead, handing out judgments, and dispensing with all that traditional “be thou not afraid” business when the need arises. In the company of the Dark Angel, fear is perfectly rational.

The Legend

The infamous blood-brother of Odin, Loki is the most featured Norse god in myths, constantly getting into and out of trouble (and often dragging the other gods along with him). The father of five children (and the mother of one!), he is best known for his role in the death of Baldr. Loki found out about Baldr’s one weakness and tricked Baldr’s blind brother into using it to kill him. Though he escapes an immediate punishment for this offense, Loki’s eventual comeuppance leaves him bound in a cave with a serpent dripping venom into his eyes until the inevitable coming of Ragnarok, when he’ll seek his own revenge against the other gods.

The Legend

In the myths of King Arthur, there is no treasure more valuable than the Holy Grail. Despite its professed importance, Arthurian traditions describe it in a wide range of ways, as a cup, a dish, even a stone. And as possessing the power of eternal youth, happiness, abundance, or simply sacredness. Whatever the exact qualities of the Grail are, its prevailing feature is how ardently it is sought by knights, holy men, kings, and the occasional whip-wielding ophidiophobic archeologist.

The Legend

Skadi is the Daughter of Thazi the Jotun, ex-wife of hostage Vanir Njordr. She was adopted as Aesir by her own merit. Skadi has a long history of tearing down boundaries, mostly by walking right up to the man in charge of them and giving him what for. From her complicated relationship with the trickster Loki to her associations with bow-hunting, Skadi is a goddess of both fierce pride and venomous violence. For example, she literally hangs a serpent over the trapped form of her sometimes-frenemy Loki.

Despite her earned reputation as a ball-buster, Skadi has a soft side in the form of her loyalty to her family (including her ex-husband’s kids). She even dishes out advice on courting giants to her lovestruck step-son Freyr.

Known as the Goddess of winter, Skadi relishes in the treacherous chill of Norse winters and the sport and travel of skiing.
